Homemade Beef Jerky – Save Money By Making Your Own!

Does your family love beef jerky? How much money could you save if you were able to make your own? Using this recipe for homemade beef jerky will allow you to start saving money today as well as add that special homemade touch to a favorite snack.

You will need the following ingredients:

2 lbs. of flank steak
2/3 cup of soy sauce
2/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
2 teaspoons of seasoning salt

First you need to slice the steak into very thin slices with the grain. To make slicing a little easier you can put the meat in the freezer for about a ½ hour prior to slicing. Next, combine the remaining ingredients and coat each piece of meat with the marinade. Now allow the meat to marinate in the mixture overnight making sure that each piece of meat is covered by the marinade.

After the meat has marinated overnight, drain any excess marinade. Place each piece of meat between paper towels and squeeze dry as much as possible. Next you will need to put each individual pieces of meat on an oven rack at 150 degrees until the meat is thoroughly dry (usually about 8 to 10 hours). Make sure to leave the oven door open a bit during the drying out process. You can also hang the meat in the oven by placing a toothpick or kabob sticks in each piece and hanging them on the rack.

Once the jerky is done – enjoy your own homemade beef jerky!! Leftovers are rare in our house, but if you do have any make sure to store it in an airtight container.
